On 21 November 2017, the Planning Inspectorate (“PINS”) (on behalf of the Secretary of State) accepted for examination our application for a development consent order (“DCO”) to construct and operate a new port terminal and associated facilities (known as Tilbury2). In accordance with the relevant legal requirements, we have written to specified organisations and those with potentially affected land interests notifying them of this fact. Notices have been put up around the site and formal newspaper notices have been published in local and national press.
Tilbury2 is proposed to be constructed on land that previously formed the western part of the Tilbury Power Station with an “infrastructure corridor” (to incorporate road and rail access arrangements) to the west of the site. The project includes the following main elements:
- a new Roll-on/Roll-off (“RoRo”) terminal
- a new facility for importing and processing bulk construction materials
- improvement of and extensions to the existing jetty in the river Thames
- dredging of berth pockets and immediate approaches in the river Thames
- external storage areas
- a new warehouse
- a new link road
- a new rail spur and sidings to provide rail access to the site
- improvements to the ‘Asda roundabout’ to the west of the site
Members of the public have until 23.59 on 8 January 2018 to register as an interested party in respect of our application and submit a relevant representation. This can be done via the PINS website infrastructure.planninginspectorate.gov.uk
PINS publishes advice on how to get involved with the DCO application process. This can be found here
A copy of all the DCO application documents, plans and maps (including the draft DCO and the Environmental Statement) are available for inspection free of charge from 28 November 2017 until 8 January 2018 at the times and locations set out below (although please note the Christmas and new year period may affect these times):
