NOTICE OF HEARINGS RELATING TO THE PROPOSED port of tilbury (expansion) ORDER
Notice is hereby given that, at the dates, times and locations set out below, a compulsory acquisition hearing and issue-specific hearings will be held by the Examining Authority (appointed by the Secretary of State) for the examination of the application made by Port of Tilbury London Limited (“PoTLL”) for a Development Consent Order (“the DCO”) for the construction, operation and maintenance of a new port terminal and associated facilities (“the Application”).
The Application was made to the Secretary of State (via the Planning Inspectorate) under section 37 of the Planning Act 2008 and was accepted by the Planning Inspectorate (on behalf of the Secretary of State) for examination on 21 November 2017. The Application has been given the reference number TR030003.
Summary of the PROJECT
The DCO would authorise the construction, operation and maintenance of a new port terminal and associated facilities (known as “Tilbury2”) on land that previously formed the western part of the Tilbury Power Station site in Tilbury, Essex, with an “infrastructure corridor” (to incorporate road and rail access arrangements) to the west of the site (“the Project”). The Project includes the following main elements:
- a new Roll-on/Roll-off (“RoRo”) terminal;
- a new facility for importing and processing bulk construction materials;
- improvement of and extensions to the existing jetty in the river Thames;
- dredging of berth pockets and immediate approaches in the river Thames;
- external storage areas;
- a new warehouse;
- a new link road;
- a new rail spur and sidings to provide rail access to the site; and
- improvements to the ‘Asda roundabout’ to the west of the site.
The Project includes the compulsory acquisition of interests in and rights over land, the temporary use of land and the overriding of easements and other rights.
Hearings
The Examining Authority’s letter dated 26 February 2018 includes a procedural decision that hearings in respect of the Application will be held at the dates, times and location set out in the table below, as varied by the Examining Authority’s letter dated 24 May 2018.
